1. You get to work whenever you want: What they don’t tell you is if you want to get any results you “get” to work ALL THE TIME. The business is on your mind 24-7 and while it is your passion there is no down time. After a long day working in the business you get to start working ON your business and that can take you well into the early morning hours. Just in time to close your eyes for an hour or so and get up to start it all over again!

2. Make all the big bucks: IF you work your tail off for a long time there is a reward in the end… sometimes. In the beginning though pay employees, rent, utilities, debt repayment, product costs, professional services, other overhead and far down the line you. In the beginning when cash is tight the you part frequently does not get paid. It is the lean times of a business and part of the sacrifices it takes to make a business work. A business owner not willing to make that sacrifice typically does not make it that long.

3. You don’t have to answer to anyone: This one is the reason most think they want to go into business for themselves. Get out from under “the man” and be able to have the freedom to do what you want and not have to take anyone’s crap. EXCEPT… the fact is that you have to keep employees happy, customers happy, lenders happy, vendors happy and what you find out in the end is that you have many, many “bosses” that you have to answer to.

If you would like to be a business owner it is VERY rewarding. To create something from your own blood and sweat by doing what you believe is right is one of the most rewarding thing you can do in your professional life. But remember with every opportunity comes great deal of challenges and very hard work!
