The other day I one of those crazy busy, seemingly insignificant, yet extremely rewarding days. My list of business forms and tasks was filling up as was my in-box, my honey-do list was getting full, and it felt like every annual renewal was due at once.
Ok, maybe I am being a little melodramatic but it sure felt exactly like that!
That afternoon I got in this mode ad checked off a bunch of those little to-do’s that were maybe not absolutely fundamental to my life or business but were there waiting to be done… AND I FELT GREAT!!
It felt like a mountain of mental stress and anxiety had been lifted. It was like a veil had been pulled away from my eyes to see the glorious day and that everything was going to be OK and Oh my the opportunities!!
Really?!! That was all it took? I had found “peace” on the other side of dropping a box of at UPS?
It got me thinking. What then is the true source of our anxiety? Is our anxiety really that “skin deep”? Can all of this nervousness and agitation we experience really be addressed just by picking up the clothes off the floor?
I believe our anxiety cones from two sources. Trying to focus on the edges and incongruence with our core values.
The anxiety I gave release to that day was the focusing on the edges part. We seem look at our days through the lens of a To-Do list instead of asking “What is my purpose for today”. When we try to focus on the dozens of tasks we have to do it seems like we are not making traction and that causes us anxiety. If instead we focused on living our purpose and making today about the three most important things that will create value in our lives, we would feel much more calm and focused.
That is the daily. For true peace that is lasting and that can tell the anxiety we all experience to Buzz off we simply (not easily) need to focus and act in congruence with our self-defined core values.
Simple… and challenging… as that!
Make it a GREAT week!
